THREE-TIME GRAND SLAM CHAMPION STAN WAWRINKA AWARDED MAIN DRAW WILD CARD FOR THE 2018 CITI OPEN®
Former World No. 3 joins deep field for tournament’s 50th edition
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka will compete in this year’s Citi Open®, further strengthening a star-studded field celebrating 50 years of tennis in the Nation’s Capital, July 28 – August 5 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.
The Swiss player, who will enter the Tournament’s main draw with a wild card, has 16 singles career titles under his belt, including the 2016 U.S. Open, 2015 French Open, and 2014 Australian Open. These achievements helped him reach a career-high ranking of No. 3 on the ATP World Tour. This year, however, will not be his maiden appearance in Washington — he made his D.C. debut in 2010.
“To have the opportunity to add Stan to an already stellar field makes our 50th edition even more special,” said Keely O’Brien, Tournament Director. “With all the excitement of our Washington Capitals bringing the Stanley Cup home, we know our D.C. sports family will enthusiastically welcome another famous Stan to town.”
